So, my car has a flat tire and I'm standing in a snowstorm and I'm telling the mechanic that I keep the spare wheel in my boot. What a Wally! Me, I mean! In fact, if I'd called him a 'Wally'' it would have just confused him more. 'Wally'' in the UK means a stupid person.

Anyway, the mechanic asks me if the spare wheel is in the trunk, and I'm thinking, what, the trunk you keep clothes in or the trunk an elephant has instead of a nose? This was getting more and more confusing and it was freezing so he walks round to the back of the car and opens the boot. Boot: trunk. Of course, the spare wheel's in the boot. Thank goodness.

And he changes the wheel in ten minutes. I pay him cash, shake his hand, get into my car and, guess what? It won't start. I get out of the car and wave to the mechanic, who was just about to drive off in his truck. He sees me, gets out of the truck, walks over to my car and tells me to, oh, what was it?

Oh yes, 'pop the hood'. I think, 'He's right, it's cold and snowy'' and I put up my hood.
